'He would open his eyes': Anil Sharma recollects Dharmendra’s final moments

Anil Sharma said that Dharmendra showcased signs of recovery. He said that even doctors were confident in his bouncing back.

Mumbai: Filmmaker Anil Sharma, also a close friend of the Deols, shared the emotional moments before the death of Dharmendra. He said that the legendary actor gave hope of a full recovery after being discharged from the hospital. He shared that Dharmendra was responsive when he met him at his residence. 

“I went to his home. He had recovered. He would open his eyes and even move his hands. He was recovering, and doctors were saying that Dharamji bahut strong aadmi hai. (Doctors said he is a very strong man)” said Anil. He also shared that the medical team was confident in the actor's recovery.

"Doctors assured us he would recover, and even in the hospital, it looked like he would. But age shows its signs, and you can’t fight that. Everyone was hopeful, and we all thought we would celebrate his birthday on 8 December," said Anil. 

Ail and Dharmendra have collaborated for years. They first united for the 1987 movie Hukumat. Later, the duo worked together on Elaan-E-Jung, Farishtay, and Tahalka. He has also worked with Sunny and Bobby Deol. He partnered with Suny Deol for Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Singh Saab the Great, and Gadar 2. He worked with Bobby Deol for the movie Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo

Anil also directed all three Deols in Dharmendra, Sunny, and Bobby, in the movie Apne

Dharmendar passed away at the age of 89 at his Juhu residence on November 24. He was previously admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, but was discharged on November 12. 

His death shattered fans and his loved ones. The actor was an inevitable part of Bollywood, lovingly nicknamed 'He-Man'. He is survived by his wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini and children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, and Ahana Deol.
