Mumbai: Veteran actress Mumtaz stated that she waited to see Dharmendra at the hospital but couldn't as the staff told her that he was on ventilator. The actress, who worked with the legend on Jheel Ke Us Paar (1973) and Loafer (1973), cherished fond memories of him. 

Speaking ETimes, the veteran revealed that she had visited Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital, where Dhamendra was admitted. “I went to see him at the hospital, but the staff told me he was on the ventilator and no one was allowed to meet him. I sat there for 30 minutes, hoping I might still get to see him, but I couldn't. I left without meeting him,” said Mumtaz.

She stated that she last met Dharmendra in 2021 at his residence. “I met him last in 2021, when I went to his place. It was such a pleasant meeting. That was the last time we met,” said Mumtaz. The film veteran added, "I feel sorry for his family, and for Hema ji. She was always devoted to him. She must be feeling this loss very deeply. She was truly in love with him.”​

The actress also went on to recollect memories of Dharmendra during the times they worked together. "We worked together in a few films, and he was always a wonderful co-star. A very nice man with a truly golden heart. He was milansar – warm, friendly, connected to everyone. Even till the end, he had a good equation with people. They still love him, and they always will. He was a legend who will always be remembered; he is irreplaceable,” said Mumtaz. 

Following the death of the veteran actor, Mumtaz also shared a series of throwback pictures on Instagram with the caption, "Dharam ji, you were, and you are always with us! May you rest in peace." 

Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at his Juhu residence. He was 89 years old.
