Bollywood in Tears: Celebs pay emotional homage to ‘He - Man' Dharmendra
Mumbai: Bollywood's 'He-Man' bid farewell to the world on Monday afternoon at the age of 89. The actor's demise has left his fans and peers in deep distress. Dharmendra was under the care of his family after being discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital two weeks ago.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to honour the great actor. Addressing him as an iconic film personality, the PM wrote, "The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti."
Filmmaker Karan Johar claimed Dharmendra's death marked the end of an era. “It is an end of an ERA….. a massive mega star… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence … he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema… defining and richly present in the pages of cinema history…” wrote the director.
Actor Akshay Kumar stated that the veteran actor inspired young boys to chase acting as a career. "Growing up, Dharmendra ji was the hero every boy wanted to be…our industry’s original He-Man. Thank you for inspiring generations. You’ll live on through your films and the love you spread. Om Shanti,” wrote the actor on X. Actress Sushmita Sen cherished the veteran actor and wrote, "A legend yes, but what an incredible human being!!! He touched lives like a blessing. His hugs, laughter, kindness & immense goodness…all so contagious & life-affirming!!! The sheer joy on my face in the pictures with him, tells you the energy he embodied…and shared with such generosity.There are few, who leave the world more beautiful than the way they found it… I feel so grateful that I got to witness that grace through you Dharam ji."
Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan also honoured the legendary actor. Sharing a picture of Dharmendra, he wrote, "You stood tall, not just in stature, but in spirit. Dharmendra ji, thank you for showing us strength can be kind. Om Shanti."
