New Delhi: Kajol-starrer mythological horror Maa features haunted mansion, a dark forest, and eerie streets of Chandarpur village. Set in Bengal, the film revolves around a demon, born out of the one drop blood of Raktabija, who was killed by Maa Kali. The film is inspired by the story of Raktabija and goddess Kali, where the goddess and the demon had a fierce fight and eventually, the demon was killed. However, one drop of his blood fell upon the land of Chandarpur where the demon attacked humans.

The film also narrates the story of a mother who protects her daughter from being sacrificed and attains the power of Maa Kali to kill the evil. Kajol’s Maa has been filmed in Kolkata and Hyderabad. In Kolkata, the movie has been shot in Flurys, situated in Park Street. Established in 1927, Flurys is a tearoom known for its old-world charm and aesthetics. Other than Kolkata, the film was also shot in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, where set was constructed to give haunting vibe to the movie.

While filming the movie Maa, Kajol revealed having disagreements with her husband Ajay Devgn and told IMDb, “There were no fights, but a few disagreements which are pretty common between couples. Some were personal, some were not, but both ways, we both came out on top.”

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Maa has collected Rs 17.40 crore so far. It opened in theatres by earning Rs 4.65 crore on Day 1, followed by minting Rs 6 crore on Day 2 and Rs 6.75 crore on Day 3. Helmed by Vishal Furia and back by Ajay Devgn, the film received mixed reviews from the critics and audiences alike.
