New Delhi: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s latest spy thriller, War 2, had a strong opening at the box office. Despite mixed reviews, the film earned Rs 52.50 crore India net on its first day, just trailing behind Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie. The significant contribution was made from its Telugu version.
Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War (2019) minted Rs 53.35 crore across all languages on its opening day and film collected Rs 51.50 crore in Hindi alone. However, War 2 lacks way behind in its Hindi version. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan recorded earnings of Rs 57 crore on its first day.
Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani starrer, War 2, collected Rs 52.5 crore from its all languages on its opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film collected Rs 29 crore from its Hindi version, Rs 23.25 crore from its Telugu version, and Tamil version contributed Rs 25 lakh. It was expected that War 2 will make good numbers from North and South, considering Hrithik Roshan’s star power and Jr NTR’s Bollywood debut. However, the opening day numbers seems disappointing.
Meanwhile, Ayan Mukerji’s directorial had an occupancy of 29.24 per cent Hindi occupancy on Thursday (August 14). Morning shows had 16.37 per cent occupancy, while afternoon shows had 23.67 per cent occupancy, evening show 29.03 per cent, and night shows had 47.90 per cent occupancy.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films, War 2 was one of the highly-anticipated movies of the year. It also stars Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles. The film also features a post-credit scene featuring Bobby Deol, which is a glimpse into YRF Spy Universe’s next instalment Alpha.
