Army at Bikaners Mahajan firing range warns villagers: Armed guards to shoot at night to stop theft | Details
The Army at Bikaner's Mahajan Field Firing Range has issued a letter to residents of nearby villagers, warning them of dire consequences if they are found stealing petrol and diesel from the field. They said that an armed guard would be deployed at the range at night and if someone is found roaming around that area at night, he would be shot dead. The order was issued after increasing theft cases were reported from the Mahajan Field Firing Range.
New Delhi: The Army has issued an order to check the increasing cases of theft in the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan’s Bikaner. The Army warned that if any oil thief is spotted at night, they would not hesitate in shooting the person.
Oil theft increasing over the years at Mahajan Field Firing Range
The Army in a statement said that all sarpanches and gram panchayats have been informed that over the past some years, incidents of theft of oil and petrol are continuously happening at the firing range. According to the Army, residents of nearby villages are involved in the theft of petrol and diesel.
In view of these incidents, during a review meeting it was decided that the night guard on duty will carry a weapon and he can make use of it if he sees some suspicious activity during the patrol. The Army has also requested the sarpanches/village heads to inform the residents of their respective villages about this new rule. They added that if some untoward incident happens with any person, then only the person concerned will be responsible for it. There will be no responsibility of the Mahajan Field Firing Range.
Office orders have been issued to take extreme precautions in the areas near the camp. In the order issued, Lieutenant Colonel Adam Commandant Ajay Grewal has requested everyone to follow the above instructions.
This order would impact Gram Panchayats in Ramsara, Jaswantsar, Prabhakar,Gusaina, Gram Panchayat Bala Desar, Ratnisar, Manohariya, Naya Khanisar, Gram Panchayat Maler, Panchayat Gopalsar, Lalgadhia, Kumbhagadhia, 2 RJM Rajana, Gram Panchayat Kharbara, Gram Panchayat Bhansar, 5 CM, Hinjrasar, Gram Panchayat Bhopalpura, Bakhtawarpura, Govindsar, Sukhchainpura, Gram Panchayat Mahadev Wali, Gram Panchayat Ramnagar, Gram Panchayat of Kishannagar and Gaurisar villages. Villagers have been warned against trying to steal from the firing range.
