Spine fractured, jaws broken: Army officer booked for murderous assault on SpiceJet employees at Srinagar airport | Caught on Cam

New Delhi: An army officer assaulted four SpiceJet employees at the Srinagar International Airport after being asked to pay for excess cabin luggage, police said on Sunday. The airline staffs suffered serious injuries, including a spinal fracture and a serious jaw injury. The officer has been charged for "murderous assault".

According to the airline authorities, the incident took place on July 26, when a passenger attempted to check in for a Delhi-bound flight. The army officer's luggages' weighed 16 kgs, which is twice the weight that is permitted on the airlines.

A video clip captured the army officer, whose identity is not revealed yet, beating the employees with a queue stand. The SpiceJet authorities claimed that the passenger refused to pay the required amount and forcefully entered the aerobridge before finishing the protocols. When a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official tried to escort the army officer back to the gate, the situation worsened. The passenger turned violent and physically assaulted four members of the SpiceJet ground staff.

In an official statement, the SpiceJet officials claimed that their staffs suffered a spinal fracture and serious jaw injuries after being attacked with repeated punches, kicks and attacked with a queue stand. Even after an employee fainted on the floor, the passenger continued to assault the employee. Another staff member started bleeding from the nose and mouth after receiving a forceful kick to the jaw while bending down to assist the colleague who had fainted." The four employees were admitted to the hospital immediately.

The local police have registered an FIR against the passenger. For further investigation, the airline has secured and submitted CCTV footage of the incident to the officials. Following the unwanted incident, the airline authorities have decided to include the passenger on the "no-fly" list, as per the rules of the civil aviation authorities.

Meanwhile, the SpiceJet authorities have also submitted a written complaint to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, urging them to take strict action against the passenger.

Responding to the shocking incident, a Srinagar army official said," The matter involving an alleged altercation between an Army personnel and airline staff at Srinagar Airport on 26 July 2025 has come to the notice of the Indian Army. The Indian Army is committed to uphold highest standards of discipline and conduct and takes all allegations seriously. Full cooperation is being extended to the authorities in investigating the case. "
