Man slapped on IndiGo flight who went missing, found at Assam railway station

The man who was slapped onboard an IndiGo flight and then went missing has been found. He reportedly left Kolkata Airport after the flight 6E-138 landed there. He was supposed to take another flight from Kolkata the next day, but investigations revealed that he never took the flight. After searches were carried out, police found him at Assam's Barpeta Railway Station. He is now being taken to his hometown.

New Delhi: The man who was slapped by a passenger on an IndiGo flight and then went missing has been found. He was found at a railway station in Assam's Barpeta, reported NDTV. The man was found nearly 800 kilometres away from where his flight landed in Kolkata. He was originally scheduled to leave for Silchar from Kolkata. But he was some 400 kilometres away from his original destination.

Man was to take Kolkata Silchar flight

The man has been identified as 32-year-old Hussain Ahmed Majumdar, a resident of Cachar district in Assam. Silchar is the headquarters of Cachar. He had boarded a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata on Thursday and was supposed to take another flight from here to Silchar on Friday.

Majumdar was on a Mumbai-Silchar flight 6E-138 when he had a panic attack. He was being helped by an airhostess, when a fellow passenger, identified as Hafijul Rahman, slapped him. When the passenger was confronted by the airhostess and other passengers on why he slapped Majumdar, he responded by saying that "he was causing him problems."

After the flight reached Kolkata, Rahman was handed over to the police by the airport and airline authorities. He was however later released. Majumdar also left the airport.

The 32-year-old man had flown on the same route several times. His family even reached the Silchar airport the next day to receive him. They were unaware of the slapping incident on board the aircraft. Majumdar works at a hotel in Mumbai.

The family soon saw the video from inside the plane, which had gone viral. They tried to reach Majumdar on his cell phone but it was switched off.

His father filed a missing person complaint and investigations started. The police found that Majumdar had not taken the flight to Silchar from Kolkata Airport on Friday. Even thee next day (Saturday) he had not boarded any flight from the airport. Police then received information that he was at Barpeta Railway Station. A team reached there and found him. He was said to be unwell. He is now being taken to his hometown.

IndiGo has meanwhile banned the attacker, Rahman. He can now not fly on any plane operated by the airlines.

IndiGo in a statement said, "The safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our foremost priority. In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behaviour onboard flights, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions."
