Family of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar conducts his last rites in Chandigarh

New Delhi: The body of Haryana-cadre IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar reached his home on Wednesday after the post-mortem was conducted at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The examination was carried out by a duly constituted Medical Board following all due procedures, the institute said. The post-mortem report will be submitted to the Investigating Officer of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The mortal remains were respectfully handed over to the family, according to an official spokesperson of PGIMER.

Top officials pay respects

At the cremation site, several senior officers of the Haryana government, including CID chief Saurabh Singh and acting DGP OP Singh, arrived to pay their last respects. A number of senior IAS and IPS officers were also present to attend the funeral. The body of ADGP Puran Kumar was brought to the cremation ground amid a sombre atmosphere, where the last rites are set to be performed shortly.

Saini orders swift action

In Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has responded with seriousness and sensitivity to the deaths of ADGP Puran Kumar and ASI Sandeep Lathar, assuring swift and transparent action in both cases.

In Puran Kumar’s case, the chief minister met the bereaved family, ordered a thorough investigation, and took immediate administrative steps — sending the Haryana DGP on leave and removing the SP of Rohtak. He also assured the family of every possible support and a fair, unbiased probe.

Similarly, following the death of ASI Sandeep Lathar, Saini personally visited the family, expressed condolences, and promised justice. Officials and observers have noted that the chief minister’s response in both cases reflects quiet determination and a focus on justice, compassion, and accountability rather than political posturing.
