New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for criticising his upcoming foreign visit. The Congress leader is slated to visit Germany from December 15 to December 20.
The former Congress president will be in Germany to attend an event of the Indian Overseas Congress. The ongoing winter session of the Parliament will end on December 19. On various occasions earlier, Rahul Gandhi had been targeted by the BJP for going abroad.
Reacting to the BJP’s criticism, Rahul Gandhi said, “Can't LoP go abroad? My trip was pre-planned; the Parliament session was announced later. Can't I represent my country abroad as LoP?” Coming to his support, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said, “PM Modi spends almost half his working time outside the country; why are they raising questions on the LoP travelling?” Commenting on the criticism, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi too said that PM Modi and the BJP have no replies to Rahul Gandhi’s questions on election irregularities.
"Rahul Gandhi has once again proved that LoP means leader of 'paryatan' (tourism). Rahul Gandhi is a non-serious politician. People are in work mode, he is in vacation mode...even when Parliament is in session till the 19th, he is going abroad. So his priorities are clear. Now I don't know if he is going to Germany for any reason, but it might be only to spew venom against India. So once again, he is going abroad for his vacation and to defame India," BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said while speaking to news agency ANI.
Seconding Poonawalla’s statement, his party colleague and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi added that Rahul Gandhi spends time abroad when the Parliament session is on. He then says he doesn't get a chance to speak. "He is a part-time, non-serious political leader," Joshi added.
