New Delhi: Following the cabinet expansion, the biggest shock that came amidst the reshuffling was the swearing in of Rivaba Jadeja, the wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, as a minister. The development marks a steady rise for 34-year-old Rivaba in the ranks of the Gujarat government after she joined the BJP in March 2019.
To everyone's surprise, Rivaba was among the 25 ministers inducted into the revamped Gujarat Cabinet. The move highlights the BJP's effort to introduce fresh, young faces and balance regional representation ahead of the local polls and the 2027 assembly elections.
Born on November 2, 1990, Rivaba hails from Rajkot, Gujarat. She belongs to an influential family, closely connected to social work. Her father, Hardevsinh Solanki, is an engineer, and her mother, Pooritaben Solanki, is a homemaker. After completing her early education in Rajkot, she later attended Atomic Energy Central School in Mumbai and then pursued mechanical engineering at the Atomic Institute of Technology and Sciences in Ahmedabad.Rivaba tied knots with Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja in 2016. With that, she became active in social work. She founded the Shree Matrushakti Charitable Trust, which works toward women’s welfare and empowerment across Gujarat. In 2019, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and demonstrated considerable activism in her constituency. Due to a positive public image, the BJP nominated her as its candidate for the Rajkot West constituency in the 2022 assembly elections. Rivaba lived up to the BJP's expectations, winning and becoming a member of the assembly for the first time. Now, as the Gujarat government expands its cabinet, Rivaba Jadeja has been included in the cabinet.
Almost two years after the election, she was rewarded with a ministerial position. Now, Rivaba Jadeja has become a minister in the Bhupendra Patel government.
