Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has completed two and a half years in office, a milestone that has reignited discussions regarding a potential power transfer within the Congress party.
This development follows Siddaramaiah reaching the halfway point of his term, prompting several Vokkaliga ministers and MLAs to renew their calls for the implementation of a power-sharing agreement. Their demand paves the way for D.K. Shivakumar to assume the role of Chief Minister.
While officially framed as a "business trip" to Delhi for agricultural department meetings, the delegations strong Vokkaliga representation, Shivakumar's primary community, has drawn political attention.
The campaign, reportedly spearheaded by the agricultural minister, asserts that the Vokkaliga community deserves recognition for its support during the 2023 assembly elections. Significantly, several Dalit MLAs from Bengaluru urban and rural areas have also extended their support to this group.
The delegation is expected to meet senior Congress leaders in Delhi, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal, and Randeep Surjewala, to press their demands. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has dismissed these speculations as an "unnecessary debate."
