Bengaluru: The Lokayukta shocked several state government officials in various parts of Karnataka early Tuesday morning. The Lokayukta staff conducted searches at various places including the houses and offices of the officials and reportedly seized important documents and assets. The raids were carried out in various places including Dharwad, Shivamogga, Mandya, Chikkamagaluru and Bengaluru.
The Lokayukta raided the residence of Rajashekar, who is the Joint Director of the Belagavi Agriculture Department, and lives in Silver Orchard Layout in Dharwad. Raids were conducted on three places belonging to Rajashekar. A private office belonging to Rajashekar in Rani Chennamma Nagar and a farmhouse near Yarikoppa village were also raided.
Scared to get caught during the raid by Lokayukta staff, Rajashekar dumped around Rs 50,000 in cash in the toilet and flushed it. It is said that he kept the police and Lokayukta staff out of the house for about half an hour and then opened the door.
The Lokayukta has raided various places including the house and office of Rupla Nayak, Executive Engineer of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department, following allegations of disproportionate assets. Raids were conducted simultaneously in Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Bengaluru, and inspections were also conducted at Nayak’s Basavanagudi and Kengeri houses, an office in Shivamogga, and a residence in Sakharayapatna in Chikkamagaluru district. It is said that documents showing assets exceeding income were found during the raids.
The Lokayukta also raided Mandya PRED Superintendent Byresh’s residence, his in-laws' house in Maddur, and his office. It is said that the Lokayukta officials carried out the raids after several complaints were received from the public against Byresh.
