New Delhi: The Karnataka High Court recently directed the state government to take immediate action for the effective implementation of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules stipulating maximum speed limits for children riding as pillion riders on two-wheelers and making helmets mandatory for children.
Following this, the Bengaluru Traffic Police, which has become vigilant, has taken the initiative to crack down on parents who irresponsibly take their children on two-wheelers.
The government is preparing to revise the rules, making helmets mandatory for children within the next six months. Bangalore Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy has informed that it is mandatory for children between the ages of 9 months and 4 years to wear helmets and appealed to the public not to be careless.
He also said that there are various types of helmets available in the market, which are affordable to consumers for around Rs 1,000. Police believe that parents in Bengaluru are lagging behind in providing helmets to their children, and it is better to take precautions before disasters occur.
Meanwhile, the Bangalore Traffic Police has been taking several initiatives recently to curb traffic violations. The 'Become a Policeman for a Day' initiative was recently launched, and an effort is being made to make the general public aware of the hardships faced by traffic police and thereby prevent traffic rule violations. It has urged the general public to experience the ‘Be a Policeman for a Day’ initiative and earn a certificate. A few days ago, the Bangalore Traffic Police had appealed through an email, saying, "Register on the BTP ASTraM app now."
