Aishwarya Sengar, daughter of former Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, has written an "extremely urgent and sensitive” letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking state intervention to ensure the safety of the rape victim and her family in the Kuldeep Sengar case, while also expressing concern over what she describes as sustained media pressure and public agitation surrounding the matter.

In her representation, Aishwarya said the prevailing circumstances could have "extremely serious” consequences not only for her family but also for the complainant and her relatives. She pointed to repeated public statements attributed to the victim, suggesting fears of suicide or being killed, which, she said, have been circulating widely on social and mainstream media. As a citizen and as a daughter, she wrote, the situation has left her "deeply fearful and helpless.”

Referring to past events, she recalled the immolation attempt made by the victim in 2018 outside the Chief Minister’s residence. She alleged that following the incident, an FIR was registered and her father arrested despite the absence of "cogent or scientific evidence” and while a related application was still pending before a court.

Cites multiple agency findings

She further referred to a subsequent accident that occurred during the course of the trial, after which, she claimed, her father was blamed without concrete evidence. In the letter, she cited findings by multiple agencies — including the CBI, an expert committee of IIT Delhi, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), and the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) — which, according to her, concluded that the incident was an accident and that her father had no role in it. She noted that a Delhi court discharged her father in that case and that no appeal was filed by either the state or the complainant.

Despite these findings, she alleged that her father continues to be blamed in public discourse, particularly by sections of the media. She argued that the dominant media narrative has curtailed her family’s right to a fair trial and made it difficult to approach courts to assert innocence without triggering protests or public agitation.

Flags future safety concerns

Expressing apprehension about future developments, she warned that any untoward incident, whether accidental, self-inflicted or criminal, could once again result in blame being placed on her father without an impartial probe.

In her appeal, she urged the home minister to ensure continuous and effective security for the complainant and her family, clearly fix the responsibility of the state for their safety, and prevent any future incident from being politically or media-wise misused. She said the letter was not intended to prejudice any party but was aimed at preventing further injustice and ensuring safety for all concerned.
