Bengaluru: A 34 year old software engineer who vanished from Attibele on the outskirts of Bengaluru in late October has been found murdered and buried inside a house in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, in a case that has drawn chilling comparisons to the plot of the Bollywood thriller Drishyam.
The body of the victim, identified as Shrinath K, was recovered on November 16 from a residence on the outskirts of Kuppam in Chittoor district, where police believe he was killed and secretly buried. Shrinath, originally from Andhra Pradesh, had been living with his wife and young child in Neraluru village near Attibele.
He was last seen on October 27, after informing his family that he planned to meet his cousin Prabhakar in Kuppam.
After he failed to return home, his wife Neha MP lodged a missing person complaint with Attibele police on November 1 and expressed suspicion that Prabhakar might be linked to his disappearance. As the investigation progressed, officers traced Shrinath’s final movements and uncovered evidence that pointed towards a financial dispute between the cousins.
According to police, Prabhakar had encouraged Shrinath during his recent housewarming ceremony to invest forty lakh rupees in his business venture, allegedly promising to double the money. Detectives now believe this monetary disagreement escalated into violence. Prabhakar, aged 39, was arrested along with his associate Jagadish, a 35 year old man with a criminal record.
Both are in custody while police continue to examine whether others may have been involved.
The case has invited comparisons to Drishyam, a thriller in which a family attempts to cover up an accidental killing. The film’s protagonist carefully constructs false alibis, manipulates timelines and hides evidence to mislead investigators, drawing attention for its portrayal of calculated deception.
