Dehradun: Tarun Chakma, a BSF jawan posted in Manipur, lost his 24‑year‑old son Angel after a brutal attack in Dehradun. Angel, an MBA student at a private university, died on Friday after battling for his life for 17 days.

Tarun said his son was “brutally attacked” with knives and blunt objects when he tried to defend his younger brother Michael, who was being abused with racial slurs. The attackers allegedly called them “Chinese,” even though Angel told them he was Indian.

Demanded strict punishment for those responsible

Tarun said Angel’s neck was broken in the attack, leading to his death. He demanded strict punishment for those responsible and justice for his son’s untimely death. He also alleged that police initially delayed registering the case and acted only after pressure from the All India Chakma Students Union and senior officers.

How the attack happened

On December 10, Angel and Michael were in the market when six people on motorcycles and a scooter stopped near them. The accused pushed Michael to the ground, prompting Angel to intervene. The group hurled abuses and racial slurs before attacking Angel with sharp objects and a heavy iron bracelet, known as a kadaa. Angel sustained severe injuries to his neck and back and was rushed to hospital. He died on December 27.

Police later confirmed that three accused and two minors were arrested on December 14. Another suspect is believed to have fled to Nepal, and a reward has been announced for his capture.
