New Delhi: A government school teacher in Noida has resigned, citing excessive pressure from election-related duties assigned to her as a Booth Level Officer (BLO). Pinky Singh, an assistant teacher at the Upper Primary School in Gheja, Sector 34, submitted her resignation after struggling to balance her teaching responsibilities with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
In her resignation letter addressed to the Election Officer and shared on the BLO group, Pinky wrote that she had already fed 215 SIR forms online, but the workload had become unmanageable. “Neither can I teach, nor can I perform BLO duties. I am resigning as I can no longer continue this work,” she wrote, adding that she should be guided on whom to hand over election materials to.
Pinky, who suffers from thyroid-related health issues, said she had earlier requested relief from BLO duty but received no response. She was assigned to the Rockwood School polling station in Sector 33, which covers 1,179 voters.
School principal Neelam Singh confirmed that the teacher had appealed for exemption, but the duty was still allotted. Basic Education Officer Rahul Pawar, however, said he had not received any formal resignation.
Across Uttar Pradesh, teachers deployed as BLOs are engaged in door-to-door verification as part of the voter list update exercise. Many educators have raised concerns about excessive workload and reports of health complications and deaths due to stress have emerged from different districts.
