Passenger train collides with goods train in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur, 8 dead

New Delhi: At least eight people were killed and several others suffered injuries in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district on Tuesday after a passenger train collided with a goods train near the Jairamnagar station. According to preliminary information, the collision took place between a local passenger train and a goods train. The accident took place on the Bilaspur–Katni section, a crucial and heavily used rail corridor.

After the collision, the railway administration and local authorities rushed rescue and medical teams to the site. Efforts are underway to assist the injured and clear the damaged coaches from the tracks.

Rescue operations underway

Following the tragic incident, the local administration rushed to the spot to coordinate relief operations and support rescue efforts. Train movement on the Bilaspur–Howrah line has been completely disrupted, with several other train services either cancelled or diverted. Reports say, the collision resulted in significant damage to overhead electrical wires and signal systems, which officials said could take time to restore.

Railway authorities issue helpline numbers

Railway medical teams are at the scene, and the injured were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The railway administration has released a helpline number.
