New Delhi: Almost a month after Mahagathbandhan’s defeat in the Bihar Assembly Elections, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reportedly met Jan Suraaj boss Prashant Kishor in Delhi last week. The meeting was held at Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence.
The meeting between the two leaders led to a buzz related to the renewal of ties between the Congress and a poll strategist who is known to lead parties to victory. However, both Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Kishor remained silent over the reported meeting, NDTV reported. While the Jan Suraaj Party contested in 238 seats, it failed to win a single seat in Bihar; Congress won just six seats.
Kishor had worked with Congress in the past, however, with mixed results. In 2017, Kishor worked with the Congress for the Punjab Assembly elections. The joining of hands was a boost for the Congress with the grand old party forming the government under Captain Amarinder Singh.
In the same year, however, the party lost the Uttar Pradesh elections even with Kishor by its side. Four years later, there were talks of Kishor joining the party, months ahead of the next Assembly polls. While Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was ready to welcome him into the party, the old guard and Rahul Gandhi were reluctant.
The number of truths spoken by Kishor also did not help. In 2021, Kishor had said that the BJP would remain in the Centre of power for years. He observed that after securing 30 percent of the votes, the BJP was not going anywhere in a hurry.
"In my humble opinion, more than me, the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms," he said in 2022, amid reports that he was likely to join Congress.
