Sonipat: India’s most expensive registration numbers for four-wheelers might have been auctioned in Haryana’s Sonipat district. The auction of the number in question might have set a new record in the country.

The number we are talking about is ‘HR88B8888’. The number is from Kundli town in Sonipat, achieving a price of Rs 1.17 crore (approximately $1.7 million). While is number is questioned as the most expensive in the country, the same will be registered in Sonipat after being blocked.

While the bidding at at 5 pm, the registration number has not yet been purchased. The number had reached a price of Rs 1 crore (approximately $1.17 million). The bidder will now have to pay the fee within the next five days to have the number blocked. However, information regarding the identity of the bidder has not yet been revealed.

It may be noted that the state holds online auctions for VIP number plates every week. Bidders can apply for the number of their choice between 5pm on Friday and 9 am on Monday. The auction takes place only online at the official portal fancy.parivahan.gov.in.

Among all which went for the bidding this week, the registration number HR88B8888 received the number of applications. There was a total of 45 applications for the same number. The base bidding price was set initially at Rs 50,000 which went up to Rs 1.17 crore by 5 PM.

The thing that makes the number special is that the number like a string of eight. It is because the alphabet B looks like eight when written in capital and there is only one digit that is repeated again and again. In April this year, businessman Venu Gopalakrishnan bought a licence plate for Rs 45.99 lakh. He putchased the ‘KL 07 DG 0007’ licence plate for a Lamborghini vehicle.
