Chandigarh: Amid the controversy over Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s Rs 500 crore chief minister post remark, the Punjab Congress on Monday suspended her from primary membership of the party. The announcement was made by Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on his social media handle.
In recent times, Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been making statements against the party's Punjab unit. She even levelled allegations like offering the Chief Minister's post for ₹500 crore without naming the Congress party.
Even on Monday, the wife of former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu accused Congress leaders like Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Pratap Singh Bajwa of going to Rajasthan to meet state Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and colluding with Aam Aadmi Party She also accused Warring of taking Rs 5 crore during the councillor elections.
"I am shocked to see the twist given to a straight comment saying that our Congress party has never demanded anything from us. On being asked about Navjot becoming a CM face from any other party, I stated that we have no money to offer for a CM post," Kaur wrote in a post on X on Sunday evening.
Speaking to reporters, Navjot Kaur Sidhu also said that her husband would return to active politics if the Congress makes him the party's chief ministerial face in the state. “"We always speak for Punjab and Punjabiyat...but do not have Rs 500 crore which we can give to sit in the chief minister's chair," she told reporters on Saturday. She commented after meeting Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on various issues, including the alleged deteriorating law and order in the state.
When asked whether anybody demanded money from them, Navjot Kaur said nobody demanded from them, but the "one who gives a suitcase of Rs 500 crore, becomes the CM".
