New Delhi: The Supreme Court, while attending a session virtually, advised a couple to let go of their egos and take decisions thinking about the welfare of their child. The SC bench said that the wife should not treat her husband like a 'lattoo (spinning top)'.
The court made the statement while objecting to the woman’s unwillingness to agree to several proposals made by her husband to fix the issues between them and meet the child.
The husband in picture is a railway employee working in Delhi while his wife is living in Patna with her parents and their child. She is working with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The man said that it was impossible for him to go and stay at his wife’s place in Patna as his in-laws had filed a case against him.
He told the SC that he was ready to take up a separate accommodation in Patna so that he can meet the child on weekends. The court said that the proposal was reasonable and asked the woman’s counsel to persuade her to accept it. However, the woman rejected the proposal.
While hearing the matter, the SC was also informed that the woman was apprehensive about visiting her husband's house in Delhi as she has her differences with the in-laws. The court told the husband to make arrangements either in Patna to meet the child for a week, or move his parents to a separate accommodation so that his wife and kid could come and stay with him in Delhi.
The SC said, "Look at the fate of the parents, they have to move out of the house because the daughter-in-law cannot live with them. There is a saying that a wife should not treat husband as lattoo." The court also advised the couple to try mediation.
