New Delhi: Maharashtra witnessed a terrifying episode as police in Latur district recovered a charred body from a burnt car. The victim, identified as Ganesh Chavan, was allegedly stuffed into a sack and placed in a seated position on the car seat. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was deliberately set on fire by the assailants.
Chavan, a resident of Ausa Tanda, worked as a recovery agent with ICICI Bank. After completing initial formalities, Latur police handed over the body to the victim’s family.
Investigators revealed that people known to Chavan had tried to contact him on Sunday but were unable to reach him. After searching for him, they later learned about the tragic incident.
“We received a call on Dial 112 at around 12:30 am reporting a car on fire on Vanavada Road. Our staff and officers rushed to the spot and informed the fire department, which extinguished the blaze. A completely charred body was found inside the vehicle. Medical officers were called, and a post-mortem examination has been conducted. Further investigation is underway,” an official said.
After the fire brigade doused the flames, police discovered the body inside the vehicle, burnt beyond recognition. The victim was later identified by his family with the help of a ring, PTI quoted an official as sayinh.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
