New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget 2026-27 unveiled a cluster of strategic announcements for Tamil Nadu, spanning infrastructure, industry, and tourism. The announcements, made ahead of the state's imminent Assembly elections, include major connectivity projects and sectoral investments aimed at bolstering the state's economic landscape.

The budget presented two transformative rail projects for Tamil Nadu's capital:

  • A new high-speed rail corridor connecting Hyderabad and Chennai.
  • A high-speed rail link between Chennai and Bengaluru.

Additionally, Tamil Nadu was named as one of four states (along with Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha) selected for the establishment of a dedicated mineral corridor and resource centre for the extraction of rare minerals, potentially boosting the state's mining and industrial sector.

Tourism & Culture: Podhigai Hills Trekking, Adichanallur Centre & Pulicat Lake Rail Access

Significant focus was placed on enhancing Tamil Nadu's tourism and cultural footprint:

  • Development of trekking tourism in the Podhigai Hills.
  • Establishment of a new cultural centre at the ancient archaeological site of Adichanallur.
