Puducherry/New Delhi: IPS officer Isha Singh, who recently gained public acclaim for her firm action against a political functionary during a public meeting of actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has been transferred to Delhi as part of a nationwide bureaucratic reshuffle. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued orders on Tuesday, transferring 49 senior IAS and IPS officers across the country.
The transfer list includes significant movements in the Puducherry cadre. While IAS officer Padma Jaishwal has been moved from Puducherry to Delhi, her place will be taken by Ginny Singh from Delhi. In the police hierarchy, Puducherry IG Ajit Kumar Singla has also been shifted to Delhi.
The Officer in the Spotlight
Following the IG, Isha Singh, who served as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Puducherry since 2024, has been transferred to the national capital. A 2021-batch IPS officer from Maharashtra, Singh had built a reputation for efficiency and integrity during her tenure. She actively led various law and order operations and was well-regarded by both the public and her colleagues.
Her moment in the spotlight came recently when a video went viral on social media. During a TVK public meeting attended by party president Vijay, Singh was seen firmly reprimanding the party's General Secretary, Anand, over a protocol or security-related issue. Her no-nonsense approach, seen as upholding the law without fear or favour, won her widespread praise online, with many hailing her as a "duty-bound" officer.
Replacement and Reactions
Replacing Isha Singh in Puducherry will be IPS officer Rajinder Kumar Gupta, who has been transferred from Jammu and Kashmir. The transfer order was issued by Rakesh Kumar Singh, Under Secretary in the MHA.
While the MHA's reshuffle is a routine exercise, the timing of Isha Singh's transfer, soon after her viral moment, has drawn attention. However, the order is part of a larger list and aligns with the central government's policy of periodic rotations. Her new assignment and role in Delhi are yet to be officially specified.
