New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor heaped praise on PM Narendra Modi’s speech at an event in the national capital. In his message, Tharoor noted that PM Modi , in his speech, emphasised that India is now longer an emerging market but an emerging model for other countries across the world.
Taking to X on Tuesday, Tharoor wrote, “Attended PM Narendra Modi’s Ramnath Goenka Lecture at the invitation of Indian Express last night. He spoke of India's 'constructive impatience' for development and strongly pushed for a post-colonial mindset. The PM emphasized that India is no longer just an 'emerging market' but an 'emerging model' for the world, noting its economic resilience. PM Modi said he’d been accused of being in “election mode” all the time, but he was really in “emotional mode” to redress the problems of the people.”
“On the whole, the PM’s address served as both an economic outlook and a cultural call to action, urging the nation to be restless for progress. Glad to have been in the audience despite battling a bad cold and cough!,” he added.
Notably, this wasn’t the first time that Tharoor was all praise for PM Modi. He has earlier too praised the prime minister, upsetting members of his own party. In June this year, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his unhappiness with Tharoor after the latter wrote an article in a national daily, praising the PM. Minutes later, Tharoor took to X and wrote, “Don't ask permission to fly. The wings are yours. And the sky belongs to no one."
In May this year, when the Centre had decided to send delegations of MPs to various countries to inform about Pakistan’s role on terrorism, the Congress had earlier dis not to send his name from the party for delegation-level tours after Operation Sindoor.
The Centre, however, ignored the Congress list and sent him as head of the delegation, which again miffed the Congress. Before the tour, he had praised the Modi Government for the successful operation on terror camps in Pakistan post the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
However, Congress leader Pawan Khera did not take his praise kindly and shared a clip on social media in which Ex-PM Manmohan Singh said that earlier too India conducted similar operations against Pakistan.
Going back in 2015, Tharoor was slammed by the Congress at that time too for praising PM Modi.
"In the Prime Minister, we are all seeing a master communicator at work. The Prime Minister is very effective in speech-making, comes up with slogans, sound bites, photo ops in quite an unparalleled way," he had then said.
