New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir police seized a rifle from a locker designated for doctors at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag. This recovery follows the detention of two Kashmiri doctors, previously posted at GMC Anantnag, who were apprehended in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur and Allahabad.

During the search operation in Fariadbad at one of the doctors' residences, the agencies recovered a huge amount of explosives, AK-47 rifles and a large cache of ammunition.

The case has escalated, with police registering charges under Section 7/25 of the Arms Act and various sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). While authorities have yet to provide an official statement regarding the recovery of the weapon and the doctors' detention, sources indicate that their names surfaced during an investigation into posters supporting the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and through an analysis of CCTV footage.

According to officials, one of the detained doctors, who had served as a senior resident at GMC Anantnag in October 2024, was working at a private hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, at the time of his arrest. A local court in Saharanpur has granted his transit remand, facilitating his transfer for further questioning.

The rifle was reportedly recovered from the hospital premises based on information provided by the detained doctors. Police are currently searching for a third doctor, with officials remaining tight-lipped on why the locker, belonging to a doctor who had left the hospital a year prior, was found locked.

Sources quoted by the local media suggest that these three doctors were allegedly members of Ansar Gazwatul Hind (AGH), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group operating in Kashmir. While two doctors, identified as Adeel Rather (native of Anantnag) and Muzamil Shakeel (native of Pulwama), have been arrested from Saharanpur and Faridabad, respectively, the third doctor is reportedly still at large.

This development raises serious concerns about the potential reactivation of the terror outfit Ansar Gazwatul Hind in Kashmir. AGH, formed in 2017 by former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Musa, has historically aimed to establish an independent Islamic state in Kashmir through jihad against India.

In a parallel operation, Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) conducted coordinated raids across various locations in Kashmir on Sunday, targeting online terror networks. A CIK spokesman stated that the raids were a response to credible intelligence regarding the online glorification of terrorism and the radicalisation of youth.

Ten specific locations across Srinagar, Kulgam, Baramulla, Shopian, and Pulwama were targeted. The spokesman emphasised CIK's commitment to safeguarding public order and regional security by combating digital threats at their source. During these raids, nine suspects, including one female, were detained. A significant cache of incriminating evidence, including SIM cards, mobile phones, tablets, and various digital devices, was seized for forensic examination, an official who was part of the raid said.
