New Delhi: A 14-year-old boy allegedly stole jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from his own home to fund his addiction to momos. The weird case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district.
According to the police, the teenager is a resident of a village under Rampur Karkhana police station limits. They added that the boy was so badly addicted to momos that he started secretly taking gold ornaments from his home and handing them over to a momo vendor in exchange for the snack. The family didn't notice the missing jewellery for a long time until they did.
The theft was discovered when the boy’s aunt paid a visit to her parental home to collect her jewellery and found the ornaments missing from the almirah. It was then that the family learned that the boy had been stealing the jewellery items and handing them over to a momo seller who ran a cart in Rampur town.
The family members then went to the police station. As per a police official, a complaint was lodged by the family and a probe has been initiated. He reportedly added that the police has taken note of the matter and details are being verified. Police said the accused will be taken into custody.
Efforts are on to trace the momo vendor. After he is nabbed, the total value of the stolen jewellery will be assessed.
