New Delhi: A disturbing video clip from Uttar Pradesh's Rampur district captured a man holding his eight-month-old son upside down, to pressure his wife for dowry. The man identified as Sanju demanded Rs 2 lakh and a car from his wife and her family.

In-laws tortured Suman frequently

Sanju and Suman tied the knot in 2023. Since then, Sanju has been pressurising the latter for dowry. Narrating her distressing story, Suman said that she has been facing physical and mental torture at her in-laws' house for a long time. On 19 July, the two families held a meeting to resolve the whole issue. When a preferable solution was not achieved, the argument took an unexpected turn.

Unable to control his rage, Sanju grabbed his infant son and held him upside down, paraded through the entire village to get his dowry. According to the villagers, Sanju paraded with the infant four consecutive times across the village.

The horrific incident was captured by the villagers and subsequently went viral on social media. It triggered widespread outrage among the netizens, questioning the safety of minors within the four walls of their home.

Accused to be sent for counselling

Reports say that the infant is currently undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. India today quoted Suman as saying, "The child is now sick, his hip joint is dislocated. We’re getting him treated. I am poor—what can I do? The police are not listening to me. I want all his family members jailed.”

Milak Khanam Station In-Charge Nisha Khatana confirmed that a case has been filed against Sanju under Section 151 and that the matter was also referred to the counselling centre, the report added.
