Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s weather remained dry in most areas on Monday, with bright sunshine during the day but severe cold in the morning and evening. Fog continued to increase in the plains, affecting flight schedules and road visibility.
According to the Meteorological Department, partly cloudy skies and light rain or snowfall are expected in the mountainous regions today. Snowfall is likely in areas above 3,500 meters, particularly in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. Scattered fog is possible in the plains, especially in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.
Dehradun experienced bright sunshine on Monday
On Monday, Dehradun and surrounding areas experienced bright sunshine, with the mercury recorded three degrees Celsius higher than normal. A light fog enveloped Haridwar in the morning, while partial clouds covered the mountains without rainfall, leaving the state under dry, cold conditions.
Six flights delayed
Flight operations were disrupted due to fog. At Dehradun airport, six flights arriving from different cities were delayed. Indigo’s flight from Delhi scheduled at 9 am landed at 2:45 pm. Air India’s Delhi flight scheduled at 4:10 pm arrived at 5:44 pm. Indigo’s Lucknow flight scheduled at 4:55 pm landed at 5:11 pm.
Indigo’s Pune flight at 5:05 pm arrived at 5:28 pm, its Mumbai flight at 6:20 pm landed at 7:07 pm, and the Jaipur flight scheduled at 6:30 pm arrived at 7:02 pm. In addition, two Indigo flights from Delhi to Pantnagar were cancelled due to poor visibility.
Fog is likely to be intensified
Officials said fog is likely to intensify further in the plains, while partial cloud cover in the hills has led to a rise in maximum temperatures. Adventure and pilgrimage travel in high‑altitude regions may be affected by snowfall, while plains will continue to face fog‑related disruptions.
IMD advise caution while travelling
The Meteorological Centre has advised caution for travelers, especially in fog‑prone districts, and recommended preparedness for possible delays in transport.
On Monday, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was recorded at 24.5°C, while the minimum settled at 8.7°C. In Udham Singh Nagar, the maximum reached 23.6°C and the minimum was 7.2°C. The hill station of Mukteshwar reported a maximum of 21.9°C and a minimum of 5.1°C, while New Tehri recorded a maximum of 22.5°C and a minimum of 6.3°C.
