New Delhi: A minor girl has accused seven people, including Kannada folk singer Music Mailari, of sexual assault in Karnataka’s Belagavi district. In her complaint, the victim alleged that she was sexually assaulted at a lodge several months ago. According to her statement, the incident took place on October 24 this year.
Following the complaint, a case has been registered against all seven accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The allegations have triggered widespread discussion and controversy on social media.
According to the complaint, Music Mailari had been invited to perform at an orchestra programme organised during the Hanuman Dev Okuli festival in a village in Belagavi district on October 24. The minor girl had also performed at the same event.
The victim alleged that during the event, she was taken to a lodge where she was sexually assaulted. She further claimed that the act was recorded.
A complaint was initially filed at Chikkodi police station on December 14, after which the case was transferred to Mahalingapur police station on December 15. An FIR has since been registered under the POCSO Act against seven individuals, including Music Mailari, at Mahalingapur police station in Bagalkot district.
In a separate incident, a folk singer from Telangana, identified as Mallik Teja, was accused of sexually assaulting his female colleague. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was blackmailed and assaulted multiple times.
She further accused Teja of mental harassment, claiming that he changed the passwords of her YouTube channel and Instagram accounts. The victim also alleged that he verbally abused her and her family members to pressure her into remaining silent.
