Uttarakhand weather update: Dry cold and frost grip hills, troubling children and elderly
Uttarakhand is facing a harsh dry cold, with frost in the hills and falling temperatures in the plains. Children and the elderly are especially troubled. Doctors report a rise in joint pain and seasonal illnesses as the weather remains dry and chilly across the state.
Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has turned harsh due to dry cold, affecting both the plains and the mountains. While frost in the hilly areas is making mornings and evenings extremely cold, the dry air in the plains is troubling children, the elderly, and patients with health issues.
According to the Meteorological Department, no major weather changes are expected soon. The weather will remain dry and cloudy, with temperatures continuing to drop. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 24.5°C, and the minimum around 13.8°C.
Dry cold conditions causing health discomfort
The lack of rain has led to dry cold conditions, which are causing discomfort and health problems. Children and elderly people are especially vulnerable. Many are suffering from colds, coughs, fevers, and breathing problems. Doctors say that the number of patients with seasonal illnesses has increased in the past few days.
People with joint pain, arthritis
The cold is also making life difficult for people with joint pain, arthritis, and back problems. On Monday, more than 300 patients with joint pain visited the Orthopedics Department at Government Doon Medical College. Doctors say that in winter, the body’s temperature drops, which slows down blood circulation. This causes the muscles around the joints to stiffen, leading to swelling and pain.
Doctors advised people to take extra care during this season. He said, "It is important to keep the body warm, do light exercise, and use hot compresses to reduce pain. A balanced diet also helps in staying healthy during winter.”
Frost is making roads slippery
In the mountainous areas, frost is making roads slippery and increasing the chill. The frost stays on the ground throughout the day due to the lack of sunlight. This has made travel risky and added to the discomfort of people living in these regions.
Doctors are urging people to stay indoors during early mornings and late evenings, wear warm clothes, and avoid sudden exposure to cold air. They also recommend drinking warm fluids and avoiding cold food items.
As the dry cold continues, people across Uttarakhand are hoping for some relief. Until then, precaution and care remain the best ways to stay safe and healthy in this chilly weather.
