Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has turned dry and chilly, creating problems for people in both the mountains and plains. Bright sunshine during the day is keeping temperatures higher than normal, but the drop in minimum temperature at night has made the cold more severe.
According to the Meteorological Center, the state will continue to experience dry weather for the next few days. Residents are waiting for rain, as the dry cold is not only uncomfortable but also causing seasonal illnesses. Even in December, temperatures are rising during the day due to the lack of rainfall.
Frost in Hills, Fog in Plains
In the mountainous regions, frost is making life difficult for locals. In the plains, fog is reducing visibility and creating risks for travelers. The Meteorological Department has warned that frost may occur in the hills and fog may cover the plains, while the minimum temperature is expected to drop by one to two degrees Celsius.
Temperature Records
On Tuesday, Dehradun experienced bright sunshine, making people sweat during the day, but mornings and evenings remained chilly. Cold winds in the evening added to the discomfort.
Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 26.4°C and a minimum of 25.1°C, both below normal. Udham Singh Nagar reported a maximum of 25.1°C and a minimum of 4.9°C. Mukteshwar recorded 19.3°C maximum and 5.3°C minimum. New Tehri reported 19.0°C maximum and 5.5°C minimum. Daytime temperatures are staying normal or slightly above, while nighttime temperatures are dropping sharply.
Health Concerns
The difference between day and night temperatures has reached more than four times in some areas. This sudden change is affecting people’s health, leading to coughs, colds, and other seasonal problems. Doctors advise residents to take precautions, especially children and the elderly.
Travel Advisory
Authorities have urged people to travel cautiously. Fog in the plains may cause accidents, while frost in the hills can make roads slippery. Travelers are advised to avoid early morning journeys and use proper winter clothing.
Sunshine will keep daytime temperatures higher
The weather is expected to remain dry across Uttarakhand for now. While sunshine will keep daytime temperatures higher, nights will continue to be cold. Frost and fog will remain the biggest challenges for residents and travelers until the weather pattern changes.
