Dehradun: Bright sunshine has raised daytime temperatures in the hills and Dehradun, while dense fog continues to cause problems in the plains. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, warning that fog may worsen in the coming days.
On Tuesday, Dehradun and nearby areas saw light mist in the morning. Soon after, the sun started shining brightly, pushing temperatures higher. Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 25.9°C, which is about five and a half degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 8.4°C.
Hilly districts witness warmer days
The hilly districts also saw warmer days. Mukteshwar recorded a maximum of 19.4°C and a minimum of 6.4°C. New Tehri reported 19.6°C as the maximum and 7.0°C as the minimum. These figures show that daytime temperatures in the hills are four to five degrees above normal.
In contrast, the plains are struggling with dense fog and cold. Udham Singh Nagar recorded a maximum temperature of 13.7°C and a minimum of 7.2°C. The fog created a “cold day” situation, making life difficult for residents. Haridwar is also facing similar conditions.
Dense fog affected air services
The fog has disrupted air services. On Tuesday, six flights to Dehradun from different states were delayed due to poor visibility. Passengers had to wait for hours, showing how fog is affecting daily life and travel.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather will remain dry across Uttarakhand for the next three days. However, dense fog will continue in the plains, especially in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. A yellow alert has been issued to warn people about possible disruptions.
Mornings and evenings remain cold
Bright sunshine is giving relief during the day, but mornings and evenings remain cold. The Chief Secretary has directed all district officials to prepare action plans to deal with the cold wave. He has asked districts to stockpile food, drinking water, and fuel until March to ensure people do not face shortages.
Authorities are advising people to drive carefully
Residents in the plains are worried about the impact of fog on health, travel, and daily routines. Farmers say fog affects crops, while students and office-goers struggle to reach schools and workplaces on time. Authorities are advising people to drive carefully and avoid unnecessary travel during dense fog hours. The next three days will be dry, but fog will continue to test patience in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.
