Uttarakhand weather update: Weather shift likely today; rain and snowfall alert for Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Chamoli

After two months of dry cold, Uttarakhand's weather is set to change from today. The Meteorological Center has issued alerts for rain and snowfall in Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, and Chamoli, with snowfall above 3,200 meters likely to intensify cold in lower areas too.

The shift in weather is expected to provide some relief from the prolonged dry cold, but the increasing chill will pose challenges for residents, especially in mountainous regions.

Dehradun: The long spell of dry weather in Uttarakhand is expected to end today, with rain and snowfall forecast in several districts. According to the Meteorological Center, the change will bring relief from the biting dry cold but also intensify winter conditions across the state.

For the past two months, Uttarakhand has experienced dry cold, with no rain in October and November. This has widened the gap between day and night temperatures. Despite bright sunshine, cold winds have made daytime conditions uncomfortable, while mornings and evenings have turned sharply colder.

Dehradun and surrounding areas saw a mix of clouds and sunshine

On Thursday, Dehradun and surrounding areas saw a mix of clouds and sunshine, but the chill persisted. Meteorologists explained that a western disturbance, cyclonic circulation, and an active depression in the Bay of Bengal have together caused temperatures to drop from the mountains to the plains.

Rain and snowfall alert

The Meteorological Center has predicted light rain in parts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, while snowfall is expected in areas above 3,200 meters. This could affect lower regions as well, adding to the cold wave already disrupting normal life in many parts of the country.

Cold wave and fog ahead

Officials warn that the cold will intensify further in the coming days. Dense fog and cold waves are expected, leading to a fall in both minimum and maximum temperatures. Travelers and residents in higher altitudes have been advised to remain cautious.

Forecast for coming days

The weather is expected to remain clear on December 6; however, conditions may change again on December 7 and 8, with rain and snowfall forecasted in higher altitudes. Other districts are likely to see dry weather during this period.

The shift in weather is expected to provide some relief from the prolonged dry cold, but the increasing chill will pose challenges for residents, especially in mountainous regions.
