Will form NDA govt with massive majority in TN, Bengal in 2026: Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has predicted a BJP-led NDA government in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in 2026, citing the party's victories in 2024 and 2025. During his two-day Tamil Nadu visit, Shah targeted the DMK over "family rule," raised concerns about law and order, and urged BJP workers to push for a massive mandate.
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form governments in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in 2026, riding on what he described as the party’s sweeping successes in the 2024 and 2025 elections. Addressing party workers during his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, Shah urged cadres to work towards a "massive” mandate as part of the BJP’s next phase of national expansion.
"The years 2024 and 2025 will be years of victory for the BJP, and in 2026, we will form the NDA government with a massive majority in Tamil Nadu and Bengal,” Shah said.
Shah calls for BJP expansion
Calling the upcoming elections a crucial milestone, Shah said Tamil Nadu and West Bengal would be the next big political frontiers for the BJP. He asked party workers to intensify grassroots efforts and remain united to ensure electoral success in both states.
Attack on DMK, charge of family rule
Targeting the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Shah accused Chief Minister MK Stalin of focusing on dynastic politics rather than governance. "The time has come to put an end to family rule in Tamil Nadu. First Karunanidhi, then Stalin, and now Udhayanidhi this dream of becoming Chief Minister will not come true,” Shah said.
He said that the state government’s primary objective was to pave the way for Udhayanidhi Stalin to take over, instead of addressing the state’s core issues. Shah also referred to the political legacy beginning with former chief minister M. Karunanidhi to underline his charge of dynastic succession.
Law and order, women’s safety under fire
Raising concerns over law and order, Shah claimed that women’s safety in Tamil Nadu was under threat and blamed the state government for failing to ensure security. "There is no guarantee of the safety of mothers and sisters in Tamil Nadu,” Shah remarked. He accused the DMK leadership of misusing political power for family succession instead of focusing on public safety and governance.
Shah’s Tamil Nadu visit and BJP strategy
Shah arrived in Tiruchirappalli on Sunday, where he received a warm welcome from party leaders, including Union Minister of State L Murugan. Large numbers of BJP workers gathered at the airport, signalling the party’s efforts to energise its cadre base.
During his visit, Shah also held closed-door meetings with BJP office-bearers and senior leaders to review organisational preparedness and chalk out strategies aimed at strengthening the party’s footprint in the state ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
