New Delhi: A woman on Monday died of a heart attack during Karwa-Chauth celebrations in Punjab's Barnala. Reports say that the woman, while dancing at the event collapsed suddenly. After admitting her to a nearby hospital, the authorities declared her dead on arrival.
The deceased has been identified as Asha Rani, who is said to be around 59 years old. She was a resident of Tapa Mandi town of Barnala.
According to the video circulated on social media, the woman was captured dancing in a courtyard. All of a sudden, the woman started staggering on the dance floor. She tried to grab something nearby to save herself from falling but was unable to hold on to it. Asha then collapsed on the ground. Following which a huge crowd gathered around her to inquire about the situation.
The crowd, upon discovering her deteriorating health, decided to shift her to the hospital. Then the hospital authorities declared her to be dead.
In a similar incident, a woman observing the fast died, and her husband was seriously injured after a speeding jeep hit their motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district. The jeep skidded and crashed into the bike, throwing the couple nearly 20 feet away. The accident occurred near All India Radio on Jail Road in Guna’s Cantonment (Cantt) area on Friday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the jeep was speeding when the driver suddenly noticed a motorcycle ahead and slammed the brakes. The woman on the bike, identified as Priyanka Kushwaha, died on the spot, while her husband Deepak Kushwaha sustained serious injuries.
Karva Chauth or Karaka Chaturthi is a Hindu festival celebrated by Hindu women of Northern India and Western India, and Nepal in October or November on the Bikram Sambat month of Kartika. Like many Hindu festivals, Karva Chauth is based on a lunisolar variant of the Hindu calendars.
The festival is celebrated by a day-long fast, mostly by the women. On this day, women pray and fast for the health and prosperity of their husbands.
