'Working to make things right': IndiGo's Rs 500 crore compensation for affected passengers after chaos

IndiGo, the country's largest air carrier, saw the worst operational meltdowns in its 20-year history this month. Several flights were cancelled over the past few days, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at major airports across the country. The airline said that the flights disruptions were caused by a shortage of pilots and the new roster rules.

New Delhi: IndiGo, which is grappling with an organisational crisis, on Friday said that it is ensuring that all refunds for affected customers are processed "expeditiously and with the utmost urgency". The airline said it will be providing compensation of more than Rs 500 crore to customers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure time and or to those who were severely stranded at certain airports due to multiple flight cancellations.

Working to make things right 

In a statement, the airline said it is working to make things right every moment and its team has been putting "thoughtful care into both refund processing and compensation disbursal".

Assuring affected passengers that it is ensuring timely refunds, the airline said that most of them have already been completed, and the remaining ones will reflect shortly.

"We are currently in the process of identifying flights where customers were severely impacted and stranded of the airports (on 3/4/5 December 2025). We will be reaching out to all such customers in January so that compensation can be extended smoothly. Our goal is to make this process as transparent, easy, and hassle-free as possible for you," it said.

"Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us. Please know that we are here for you and will continue working diligently until everything is set right," it added.

Travel vouchers for passengers

The airline earlier announced a voucher of Rs 10,000 for affected passengers. It said that the travel vouchers can be used for any future IndiGo journey for the next 12 months.

The airline, which is under fire over operational crisis and cancellation of more than 2,000 flights for several days, said that the compensation is in addition to its commitment to provide Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 as per the existing government guidelines, to those customers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure time
