New Delhi: Nestled within the majestic Himalayas in Himachal’s Chamba district, Pangi Valley is a secluded place where calmness is found in nature, culture, heritage and legends in villages, adrenaline rush on its rugged and rough roads. 1. Luj Village
Luj’s stone inscriptions from 1105 AD highlight about the ancient kingdom of Chamba. The village, near to Jammu & Kashmir, is famous for its bounty of fruits like apples, chilgoza, walnuts, and grapes. Don’t skip the Sheetla Mata Temple, where the goddess is worshipped for protection from diseases.
2. Salhi Village
Salhi Village is a charming place that carries the echoes of royal heritage. One crucial inscription here recounts the reign of King Jasht Varman, adding a regal thread to Pangi’s history.
3. Sach Pass
Perched at 14,500 feet, Sach Pass links Pangi with Chamba and is open from mid-June to October. The journey is dramatic – winding roads, towering peaks, and the Bhoti people who keep their Buddhist-Hindu traditions alive.
4. Todd Bungalow
Named after British officer Todd, this forest rest house is located in Purthi and oozes colonial charm. Locals narrate that his ghost still lingers here after he tragically drowned with his dog in the Chandrabhaga River.
5. Cherry Bungalow
Nestled amid cherry orchards, this rustic retreat becomes vibrant with colours in spring. Saunter under blooming canopies, breathe in the scent of fruit-laden ambience, and soak in nature’s song.
6. Mindhal Mata Temple
Situated on a hilltop, this temple is not just a spiritual site but a window to Pangi’s divine aura. Its intricate architecture and panoramic views create a setting of divine calmness.
7. Chinni Pass
Linking Chenab and Balsio valleys, this unexplored trekking pass is rich with alpine trees and history. Once used by locals before roads were built, it’s now a paradise for adventurous trekkers.
8. Sidhani Dhar
Famous for its native flora and fauna, this hamlet is a hotspot for Shilajit extraction, a mineral-rich resin used in Ayurveda since ancient times.
9. 16th-Century Stupa
Time-worn yet tranquil, this ancient stupa near Chasak Bhatori whispers of a sacred past. The breeze, the chants, and the views – all merge into spiritual stillness.
10. Singh Mud Lake
This hidden lake reflects the skies and soothes the soul. Stay here until twilight – the reflection of stars on the water feels like a dream woven in silver.
11. Sechu Tuan Wildlife Sanctuary
Covering over 390 sq km, this eco-sensitive zone is home to Himalayan Thar, musk deer, foxes, bears, and snow leopards. A must-visit for nature admirer, wildlife lovers and photographers.
12. Tilmil Pani
Situated close to Dharwas, these natural hot springs are surrounded by hazelnut groves. Perfect for rejuvenation, the warm waters are said to have healing properties.
13. Tundru Sword Quarry
This mysterious place preserves ancient rock swords crafted by the Hudan ancestors. A fascinating stop for those people, who are drawn to lost legacies and prehistoric craftsmanship.
14. Chabi Waterfall via Sural Bhatori
It's a 30-minute hike to this enchanting waterfall, cascading through a lush green forest. Relax on the stone slab beside it, sketch, write, or simply stare into the endless green – time time flies here peacefully.
15. Dharwas–Sural Trek
A moderate 30-km trail where you will see thick deodar forests, hidden waterfalls, and rich biodiversity. A soulful journey for adventurous trekkers and nature lovers.
Pangi isn’t just a valley – it is a living tale. Elders narrate tales of the Sach and Hudan spirits that guard the forests and peaks. Due to the valley’s isolation, it’s believed that the Chamba king once offered to pay for the funerals of officials visiting Pangi, unsure if they would survive the treacherous journey.
