Amid strained cricketing ties, uncertainty looms over Bangladeshi golfers participation in PGTI
Amid strained cricketing ties and the ongoing bilateral tensions between the two countries, a decision is yet to be taken regarding Bangladeshi golfers' participation in PGTI.
The cricketing ties between India and Bangladesh have hit an all-time low amid the increasing political tensions between the two countries. Bangladesh have refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 next month after the BCCI asked Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their squad ahead of IPL 2026.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formally wrote to ICC on Sunday, a day after KKR released Mustafizur, urging the world governing body to shift their matches out of India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh requested their matches to be moved out of India, citing security concerns for the players and the support staff.
Amid strained cricketing ties, uncertainty looms large over the participation of Bangladeshi golfers in the upcoming Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). There are several golfers from Bangladesh who are scheduled to feature in the PGTI, including prominent names like Md Siddikur Rahman, Jamal Hossain and Md Akbar Hossain.
PGTI president and cricket legend Kapil Dev said no decision has been taken yet regarding the participation of Bangladeshi golfers in the PGTI 2026. Kapil said the PGTI will conduct a meeting to discuss the recent developments in Bangladesh.
"We'll sit down and talk about the recent issue. We haven’t taken any decision on it yet," Kapil was quoted as saying by PTI.
The 1983 World Cup-winning captain also refused to speak about the ongoing tussle between the BCCI and BCB after the Indian cricket board directed KKR to release Mustafizur from their IPL 2026 squad.
Bangladesh bans IPL broadcast in the country:
In response to BCCI's decision to remove left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman from KKR's squad for IPL 2026, the Bangladesh government on Monday banned the broadcast of IPL and all related promotions in the country. The Bangladesh government has announced an indefinite ban on the telecast of IPL in the country, stating that BCCI's move to exclude Rahman from KKR's squad has 'hurt, saddened and angered' the people of the country.
Mustafizur was bought by KKR for a sum of Rs 9.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi last month. BCCI directed KKR to release him from their squad amid massive outrage on social media over the ongoing violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
