Vidarbha opener Atharva Taide stepped up for his side with a magnificent century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 final against Saurashtra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) Ground 1 in Bengaluru on Sunday, January 18. Taide slammed a brilliant knock of 128 runs to provide his side with a strong start in the all-important summit clash.
Taide opened the batting with in-form Aman Mokhade, and the duo set the tone with an 80-run stand for the first wicket. Mokhade, the highest run-getter in the tournament so far, was cleaned up on 33 off 45 balls by Ankur Panwar, but Taide continued his onslaught on the other end to notch up his ton off 97 balls.
The left-hander's 128 off 118 balls was laced with 15 fours and three sixes as he set the stage for a big total for Vidarbha. After his solid opening stand with Mokhade, Taide combined with half-centurion Yash Rathod (54) to add another crucial partnership of 133 runs for the second wicket.
It was Taide's third List A century as he continued his good form for Vidarbha in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. The left-hander was dismissed cheaply on 6 in the semi-final against Karnataka, but Mokahde's superb ton helped Vidarbha chase down the target of 281 runs to book a spot in the final against Saurashtra.
Taide bounced back on the big stage in the final on Sunday to lead the charge for Vidarbha with his brilliant century. The left-hander looked in exceptional touch from the word go and showcased dtermination and reslience to carve out his maiden ton in the tournament this season.
With his 128-run knock in the final, Taide took his tally to 396 runs in seven matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Despite not featuring in all games for his side in the tournament, the prolific left-handed opener played a key role in helping his team reach the final and will hope his ton proves to be the difference between the two sides in the summit clash.
Vidarbha rode on Taide's ton and half-century from Rathod to post a strong total of 317/8 in 50 overs against Saurashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 final on Sunday. After Taide and Rathod's departure, the Vidrabha batters failed to make the most of the death overs, but contributions from Faiz Mohammed Sheikh (19 off 15), Harsh Dubey (17 off 15) and pacer Darshan Nalkande (14 off 6) helped them cross the 300-run mark comfortably.
