Sanju Samson's potential trade deal from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has become the talk of the town. Samson is reportedly close to completing a switch from RR to CSK in a trade deal that might see Ravindra Jadeja and another CSK player head to RR. The deal is reportedly close to completion.
However, CSK were not the only team in trading Samson from Rajasthan Royals after the star wicket-keeper batter made it clear to his current franchise that he wants to leave. Samson, who has been leading Rajasthan Royals since 2021, was on the radar of multiple franchises. DC were one of the teams interested in securing his services and had all but struck a deal with RR for the Team India star.
As per a report in the Times of India, DC and RR had all but finalised a player swap deal which would have seen Samson heading to Delhi in exchange for South Africa star Tristan Stubbs, who would have joined the Rajasthan Royals. However, the deal fell through after RR demanded an additional uncapped player to be added to the deal.
RR wanted uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi to be added to the trade deal involving Stubbs and Samson. However, DC rejected their approach for Rizvi, which led to the deal getting called off at the last minute. CSK came into the picture after the deal between DC and RR didn't materialise.
As per the report, CSK had expressed interest in roping in Samson from RR in a trade deal earlier this year. However, they didn't show much interest after Rajasthan Royals demanded star all-rounder Jadeja to be included in the player swap deal. RR then shifted their attention towards negotiations with DC, however, the trade deal ultimately fell off.
Rajasthan Royals re-established contacts with Chennai Super Kings after failing to agree a deal with Delhi Capitals for Samson. As per ESPNCricinfo, CSK and RR are close to completing one of the most high-profile trade deals in IPL history, which will see Samson join the five-time champions and Jadeja move to his former team RR, along with England all-rounder Sam Curran.
The two franchises have reportedly held talks with all three players involved, and a deal will be finalised once they give their written consent. CSK reportedly wanted to trade Samson in an all-cash deal as they were reluctant to part ways with Jadeja, who has been one of their strongest pillars of success in the IPL over the years. However, the five-time champions gave in to RR's demands.
There has been no official confirmation yet from both franchises, and it remains to be seen if the much-talked-about trade deal will be completed successfully before the IPL 2026 auction.
