New Delhi: Ruturaj Gaikwad's unbeaten half century lifted India A to a nine-wicket win over South Africa A in the second unofficial ODI in Rajkot on Sunday.
With the win, India took an unsurpassable 2-0 lead in the three-match series as pacer Harshit Rana (3/21) and left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu (4/16) helped India fold up the visitors for 132 in 20.3 overs.
Abhishek Sharma (32, 22 balls) and Gaikwad (68 not out) added 53 runs for the opening wicket in only 8.1 overs as India reached their target in 27.5 overs.
The match would have ended a lot earlier had not Abhishek got caught at the hands of Luhan Dre Pretorious off pacer Lutho Sipamla.
Gaikwad and skipper Tilak Verma (29 not out) knocked off the remaining runs with ease.
Gaikwad scored the winning runs with a boundary off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen.
South African batters struggled against Rana's pace and the guile of Sandhu as they claimed seven of the 10 wickets.
None of the touring team's batters could score above 40 in SA innings with opener and wicketkeeper-batter Rivaldo Moonsamy's 33 (34 balls) being their top-scorer.
South Africa A: 132 all out in 30.3 overs (Rivaldo Moonsamy 33, Harshit Rana 3/21, Nishant Sandhu 4/18) lost to India A: 135/1 in 27.5 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 68 not out, Tilak Varma 29 not out, Abhishek Sharma 32) by 9 wickets.
