The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction will be held in Abu Dhabi in mid-December, a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.
If the report is to be believed, the auction is likely to be held on December 15 or 16, making it the third successive year that the auction will be held overseas, following Dubai (2023) and Jeddah (2024)
"Abu Dhabi has been locked in as the auction venue," the official said.
Following the mega auction in Saudi Arabia last year, IPL will conduct a mini auction this year.
As the retention deadline draws near, franchise activities have started to gather pace. All ten IPL teams have to submit their final list of retained and released players by November 15. With the deadline day fast approaching, anticipation surrounding the potential trades and surprise exits is growing with each passing day.
The biggest talking point before the retention deadline has been the highly anticipated move of Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals (CSK) to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which is likely to go through as part of a swap deal between the two former champions.
While Samson is all but certain to don the Yellow jersey in IPL 2026, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran have been touted to move to the Jaipur-based franchise.
Reports of Samson replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad as the CSK captain are also doing the rounds in the cricketing circles. Likewise, in the Rajasthan camp, Jadeja is tipped to become the new skipper in place of Samson to fill the potential vacant spot in the franchise.
While the IPL auction is still a long way away, the Women's Premier League (WPL) is all set to conduct its first-ever mega auction later this month. The mega-auction is set to be held on November 27 in Delhi, amidst massive fanfare, after the landmark World Cup win of the Indian women's cricket team last month. All five WPL franchises confirmed their retention and release lists last week.
