IPL 2026 retentions: Complete list of retained and released players of all ten franchises

Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer and Matheesha Pathirana are among the biggest names released by their respective franchises as all ten Indian Premier League (IPL) teams announced their final list of released and retained players on Saturday, November 15. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have released a total of 11 players, including the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, who have been traded to Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Sanju Samson.

CSK have released the likes of Pathirana, Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar among others to free up a whopping Rs 43.4 crore in their remaining purse. KKR parted ways with Iyer, who was bought for a staggering sum of Rs 23.75 crore by the three-time champions in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.

Iyer became the third-most expensive signing in IPL history after being bought back by KKR last year. However, a dip in his performances has forced the KKR to release the Indian all-rounder. KKR have also ended their long-term association with West Indies star Russell, who has been with the franchise since 2014.

Russell played a key role in KKR's third IPL title victory in 2024 with 222 runs and 19 wickets in 15 matches. He was retained by KKR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction last year for Rs 12 crore. However, he has been released after a disappointing outing last season, where he managed only 167 runs and 8 wickets in 13 matches.

KKR will head into the IPL 2026 auction with the biggest purse of Rs 64.30 crore, followed by CSK, who have freed up funds of Rs 43.40 crore. Rajasthan Royals, who traded Samson to CSK, have also parted ways with Sri Lanka spinners Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, along with Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi. RR have released a total of 7 players and will have a purse of Rs 16.05 crore.
