Karun Nairs cryptic goes viral amid Indias horrendous batting collapse in 2nd Test against South Africa
A cryptic post from Karun Nair has gone viral on social media amid India's disastrous show with the bat in the 2nd Test against South Africa in Guwahati.
Senior India batter Karun Nair shared a cryptic post on social media as India suffered a terrible batting collapse in their first innings of the ongoing 2nd Test against South Africa in Guwahati on Sunday. India were bowled out for a paltry 201 after a horrendous show with the bat in their first innings on Day 3 of the Test match.
In pursuit of South Africa's mammoth first-innings total of 489 runs, India resumed their first innings on 9/0. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul shared a 65-run stand for the first wicket to give the hosts a decent start, however, India lost the plot in no time after the duo's departure.
From 65/0 at one stage, India were reduced to 102/4 at Lunch after the South African spinners ran through their top order. Post lunch, the wickets kept falling as stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant (7), Nitish Reddy (10) and Ravindra Jadeja (6) were all dismissed cheaply.
Washington Sundar led India's resistance with a gutsy 48 and combined with Kuldeep Yadav (19) to help them cross the 200-run mark. Marco Jansen went on to pick up his maiden Test fifer to help the Proteas eventually bundle out the hosts for 201 runs, securing a massive 289-run lead for their second innings.
Nair, who was ignored from India's squad for the ongoing Test series against South Africa, took to social media to share a cryptic post, where he hinted at his frustrations at not being part of the team. Nair made his Test comeback for the England tour earlier this year, but has since been dropped from the side.
"Some conditions carry a feel you know by heart – and the silence of not being out there adds its own sting," the 33-year-old wrote in his post.
South Africa decide to not to enforce follow-on in 2nd Test
South Africa had the chance to enforce follow-on on India after skittling out the visitors for just 201 runs, 88 runs short of the 289-run mark which would have helped India avoid follow0n. However, the Proteas decided against inviting India to bat for a second time and opted to continue with their second innings after securing a heavy 289-run lead.
South Africa played 3.5 overs on Day 3 before stumps and reached 18/0 to extend their lead to 306 runs. Ryan Rickelton remained unbeaten on 8, while Aiden Markram was batting on 9 when South Africa headed into stumps. The duo will resume the proceedings for the Proteas on Day 4 of the Test match on Tuesday.
