New Delhi: Former India captain has expressed serious concern about the T20I form of skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill following the Asia Cup victory. Despite leading the Men in Blue to their ninth Asia Cup title, Suryakumar has struggled to score runs throughout the tournament.
The Indian skipper only managed to score 72 runs in six matches at an average of 23.66. In 2025, Suryakumar has only managed to score just 100 runs in 11 innings at an average of just above nine. His performance as skipper is also concerning for India, scoring just 330 runs in 20 innings.
The 2025 Asia Cup further highlighted his batting struggles, with a series of low scores - 0, 5, 12 and 1 in his last four games. In the final match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, Suryakumar was dismissed for just 1 run, putting the team under more pressure.
On the other hand, Gill has featured in all seven matches for the team in the Asia Cup 2025 but only managed to score 127 runs. In the final, he made 12 runs from 10 balls. Gill returned to the T20I setup after scoring more than 700 runs in the five-match Test series against England, but failed to convert his red-ball form into the limited-overs cricket.
Former India captain Kris Srikkanth criticised both batters and said that Suryakumar has let him down. He further added that his scores are like a pin code.
"Both batting lineups had several pin codes, with Pakistan being much worse, of course. But yes, Surya's form is very concerning, along with Shuman Gill," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
He also said that Gill doesn't look very deadly in the T20 format, but he is a fantastic batter in the Tests and ODIs.
"Though they made him the vice-captain, with the World Cup coming up, we have to see what they do with him. He wasn't even in my team during the initial selection. But they made him the vice-captain as well," he added.
The Men in Blue will next take on the West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 2.
