Four-time winners Mumbai were knocked out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 campaign after losing a rain-hit quarterfinal clash against Karnataka at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1, Bengaluru. In the second quarterfinal played at ground 2 of COE, Saurashtra edged past Uttar Pradesh and qualified for the semifinals alongside Karnataka.

Chasing a modest 255, Karnataka were cruising at 187/1 in 33 overs when the bad light stopped play. Shortly after, rain arrived and washed away any hopes of a restart. Karnataka, needing 68 runs in 17 overs, were declared winners by 55 runs via the VJD method as they were well ahead of the VJD par score of 132.

Sarfaraz's absence hurts Mumbai

Earlier, Mumbai suffered a huge blow when in-form top batter Sarfaraz Khan (303 runs at 75.75) was ruled out after being struck on the finger during net practice.

In his absence, Mumbai could only muster 254 for 8 after Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal opted to bowl first.

Shams Mulani was the lone warrior with the bat, scoring an impressive 86 to rescue the Mumbai innings after a top-order collapse.

For Karnataka, Vidyadhar Patil was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/42, while Abhilash Shetty and Vidwath Kaverappa bagged two wickets each.

Harvik leads from the front

In the other match, Saurashtra, chasing 311, were 238/3 in 40.1 overs when the play was stopped. As rain prevented the game from restarting, Saurashtra were awarded the game by 17 runs via the VJD method.

Skipper Harvik Desai played a captain's knock, remaining unbeaten on 100. Prerak Mankad, who picked up two wickets after his skipper won the toss and opted to bowl first, played a superb knock of 67 and was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

Earlier, Abhishek Goswami and Sameer Rizvi scored 88 each to power UP to a good total of 310/8 in 50 overs.
