WATCH: Shreyas Iyer loses cool at security staff as fans mob cricketer at teammates birthday bash
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer looked visibly upset as a security staff tried to take a selfie with him while fans mobbed him for pictures during his Punjab Kings teammate Shashank Singh's birthday bash.
A video of Team India's ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has gone viral on social media, where he can be seen losing his cool at a security staff after being stopped for a selfie during an event in Mumbai. Iyer was in Mumbai to attend the birthday bash of his Punjab Kings (PBKS) teammate Shashank Singh. PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta was also in attendance.
Iyer was mobbed by a group of fans while he was leaving the venue. The fans stopped the cricketer in order to click pictures with him. A security staff too tried to take a selfie with the cricketer after blocking his entourage. Iyer was visibly unhappy with the security staff's gesture and told him it was his job to stop others.
"Bhai tumhara kaam hai hatana (Brother, you were supposed to stop others)," Iyer can be heard telling the security staff member in the video clip that has gone viral. The Indian cricketer was visibly upset at how the situation unfolded while leaving the venue.
Iyer was in Mumbai to attend the birthday bash of his PBKS teammate Shashank. The Indian cricketer recently returned home from Sydney, Australia, where he was undergoing treatment after suffering a spleen injury during India's ODI series against the Aussies last month. Bollywood actor Dino Morea also attended Shashank's birthday party.
Shreyas Iyer likely to remain out of action for two months
Iyer, who underwent a minor procedure in Sydney after suffering a spleen laceration during the Sydney ODI between India and Australia last month, is expected to remain out of action for at least two months. Iyer has been recovering well and recently returned home from Australia, however, he is unlikely to take the field anytime soon.
Iyer has reportedly been advised to wait for at least a couple of months before resuming training and will have to follow a controlled rehabilitation roadmap. He is set to miss India's upcoming ODI series against South Africa and will also miss the ODI series against New Zealand in January next year. Iyer is likely to make his comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 in March next year.
